  Blues icon. Soul man. Rock and roller. Robert Cray is all of it, and after five decades in the business, he's still delivering every note like it's his last. Cray's story starts in the Pacific Northwest, where he built a following in small towns long before he had a record deal, and where a young guitarist named Stevie Ray Vaughan became a friend and stage partner. From there it only grew: five Grammy Awards, induction into the Blues Hall of Fame, the Americana Music Lifetime Achievement Award, and a catalog of 19 studio albums that never once sounds like anyone but him. Along the way, Cray has shared a stage or studio with John Lee Hooker, Muddy Waters, B.B. King, Buddy Guy, Chuck Berry, Albert Collins, Tina Turner, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Eric Clapton, and The Rolling Stones. He designed two signature Fender guitars. He even appeared in Animal House before his own debut album had a release date. 2026 marks the 40th anniversary of Strong Persuader, the breakthrough album that made Cray the first blues and soul artist to find a home in the MTV era, topped charts worldwide, and won him a Grammy for Best Contemporary Blues Recording.   Dr. Chris Farrar discusses the origins of writing. Here's an icebreaker for your next party: What's the most important invention of all time? Go ahead. Try it. Maybe you'll hear fire. Or the wheel. The internet. Or AI. But after this talk, we hope to convince you that there is one correct answer: Writing. Take a look at the process by which accounting for donations to temples more than five thousand years ago turned into writing systems capable of capturing the richness of human language and culture. Learn how poor turquoise miners in the Sinai desert, desperate for the protection of their patron goddess, combined symbols from one of these systems with the unique characteristics of their own language, creating a new way of writing and changing human destiny forever. Finally, talk briefly about the development of writing and the creation of one of the foundational texts of the western world: The Bible. It will be illuminating, interesting, and fun. Plus, there will be lots of pictures! Books are available for purchase and signing at the time of the program. Dr. Farrar holds a doctorate in Linguistics from Ohio State University. He has been a lay student of biblical archaeology and scholarship for 50 years. With this background, he has turned his attention since 2018 to writing historical fiction. In 2020 he published his first novel, By the Waters of Babylon, set in the time of the Babylonian conquest of Jerusalem. In 2022, he published the sequel, Light of Exile, set two generations later during the fall of the Babylonian Empire.

  There are songwriters who chronicle life, and then there’s David Wilcox — an artist who metabolizes it. His 2025 release The Way I Tell the Story is the latest proof that resilience isn’t just a survival skill, it’s an art form. These songs don’t dramatize. They don’t resolve neatly. They sit in the complexity of living — open-eyed, unafraid, and quietly brave. “Times get tough, and music gets good,” he says, and he means it. Wilcox first turned heads with his 1989 major-label debut How Did You Find Me Here, which sold over 100,000 copies largely through word of mouth and live shows alone — a remarkable feat for a debut folk record. Rolling Stone praised his soulful insight; The New York Times called his music “a kind of open-hearted therapy.” A string of celebrated albums followed, alongside collaborations with Shawn Colvin, Patty Larkin, and John Gorka. In 2018, he took top honors at the USA Songwriting Competition. His songs have been covered by k.d. lang and Tony Rice. His guitar work has been studied by anyone serious about the instrument. His music resonates now more than ever because it doesn’t try to outpace the moment — it meets it. Not flashy. Not loud. Just deeply, generously alive.

  Experience the art of glassblowing! Create a glass project you select with individual guidance from our professional glass artist. We've made scheduling easier! Select the monthly project or pick from our current list of options. You can now create a variety of glass all throughout the year! We hope you enjoy the new freedom of choosing your project and a user-friendly check-out system. *Instructions: Simply select your date and check out, then receive a confirmation from us once it is approved within 48 business hours. Things to Remember about Glassblowing Experiences Pre-registration is required for all glassblowing experiences. (Register early! Experiences sell-out quickly) Participants must be 12 years of age or older You will work one-on-one with our artist. Sessions range from 15-30 minutes depending on the piece being made For your safety, closed-toe shoes and eye protection (provided by The Works) must be worn at all times in the Glass Studio All participants must fill out The Works Glass Studio Release Form on-site prior to their experience Please plan to arrive a few minutes prior to your session. If you arrive late, you may be asked to wait for the next session, if available We are unable to provide refunds for glass experiences. Please call Guest Services at 740.349.9277 for more information Your piece will be cooled slowly in our annealer and will be ready to pick-up one week after your experience. If you are unable to pick up your item, shipping can be arranged with Guest Services. Shipping fees may apply. Please note, The Works will store your piece for 6 months.
